individuals. In pursuit of this endeavor, the following exposure control plan (ECP) is provided
to eliminate or minimize occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in accordance with
OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.1030, "Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens."
The ECP is a key document to assist our University in implementing and ensuring compliance
with the standard, thereby protecting our faculty, staff, and students.
Purpose:
contact with bloodborne pathogens and/or other potentially infectious materials are informed
of the procedures to follow.
Scope:
potentially infectious materials are subject to this Policy.
Exceptions:

Prevent bloodborne infections by eliminating or minimizing exposure to human
blood, human blood products, and other potentially infectious materials through
strict adherence to OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030).
This will be accomplished by implementing universal precautions, engineering and
work practice controls, maintaining a clean workspace, communicating hazards
associated with materials, recordkeeping, and training. Please see Exposure
Control Plan included in the Attachments Section of this Policy.

Include any body fluid that is visibly contaminated with blood, and all body fluids in situations where it is difficult or impossible to differentiate between body fluids; any unfixed tissue or organ (other than intact skin) from a human (living or dead); and HIV-containing cell or tissue cultures, organ cultures, and HIV- or HBV-containing culture medium or other solutions; and blood, organs, or other tissues from experimental animals infected with HIV or HBV. |
