Trinity University prohibits discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression and aims to provide equal opportunity for all students to participate in athletic and recreational activities while being treated with respect. This participation policy is guided by the following  principles:
  • Trinity University is an institution committed to creating, sustaining, and  supporting a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and social justice.
  • Transgender and gender nonconforming students should have equitable  opportunity to safely participate in all campus activities.
  • Trinity’s transgender policy for NCAA Athletics is governed by the NCAA transgender participation policy.

This document includes policies specific to Trinity University students who participate or wish to participate in NCAA athletics and in the recreational activities provided under the auspices of the Athletics Department: club sports, intramural sports, outdoor recreation activities, and other exercise and wellness opportunities.

Policy Content
The NCAA Policy on Transgender Student-Athlete Participation is available here.

The NCAA policy calls for transgender participation for each sport to be determined by  the policy for the national governing body of that sport. If there is no national governing body policy, it would then be determined by the policy for that sport’s international federation. If there is no international federation policy, it would be determined by policy criteria previously established by the IOC. Sport-specific polices are subject to ongoing review and recommendation by the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports to the Board of Governors.

The current NCAA policy aligns transgender student-athlete participation with the Olympic Movement.  The IOC Transgender Guidelines are available here.

Each transgender student-athlete who wants to participate in NCAA athletics shall meet with the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance to review current eligibility requirements and procedure for approval for transgender participation.  The Compliance Director will locate the applicable governing policy for that sport and explain what the current requirements are and what medical documentation is needed. All medical documentation will be reviewed by Trinity's team physicians to determine if medical requirements have been met.

All discussions among involved parties and required written supporting documentation will be kept confidential, unless the student-athlete makes a specific request otherwise.  All information about an individual student’s transgender identity and medical information shall be maintained confidentially.

Transgender student-athletes like all student-athletes have to earn a roster spot on Trinity’s NCAA Athletic Teams. For those student-athletes who were not recruited by the coaches, tryouts are typically offered unless all roster spots are filled.

The NIRSA Championship Series Transgender Athlete Participation Policies and Guidelines are available here.
A transgender student-athlete may participate in accordance with their gender identity as stipulated by the policies and practices of NIRSA. Transgender student-athletes should consult with the Associate Athletic Director for Recreation and Sports Camps to determine the eligibility requirements.

WBC 110, WBC122, WBC 123 (with shower) are available for use. (122 and 123 are unlocked daily)
Teammates, coaches, and all other college personnel shall refer to student-athletes by  their chosen names and pronouns.
When competing off campus, student-athletes should be provided accommodations  based on their gender identity. When traveling, student-athletes shall be assigned lodging accommodations based on their gender identity, with the recognition that any  student-athlete who requests extra privacy should be accommodated whenever possible.
