Policy Content
Trinity University strives to create a culture that supports the Athletic divisions and all members of the Trinity community. The university is committed to the health, safety and well-being of all members of the university community, including visitors and spectators. The guidelines below are designed to ensure all guests have a safe and enjoyable game day experience.
Tailgating is permitted on game days and within designated areas on campus. Students, faculty, staff and visitors are permitted to attend tailgating activities. Tailgating participants are expected to dispose of trash properly.
Tailgating areas are open two hours prior to game time and must be cleaned up one hour after the end of the game.
Trinity University has established designated areas for tailgating (see map below). Generally, for football events, tailgating will be permitted on Prassel Lawn and on the south end of the football stadium. Trinity University reserves the right to move designated locations as needed and without prior notice.
- Guests and students over the age of 21 may bring beer and wine for personal use in the designated tailgating areas. Outside hard alcohol is not permitted. On select game days and for university events, an alcohol vendor may be on site for the purchase or distribution of alcoholic beverages in designated locations.
- For alcoholic beverages, personal coolers are permitted, large common source containers (extra large coolers, kegs or items intended to serve as a beverage source for multiple persons) are not permitted.
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages is limited to the grassy designated tailgating areas. Alcohol is not permitted in the stadium stands or on the stadium track.
- Trinity University expects students and visitors of legal drinking age to consume alcoholic beverages responsibly. Trinity University staff and the alcohol vendor have the right to refuse alcohol sales should they feel a person's safety is at risk.
Fans may bring their own food and beverages. Food and beverages are not permitted on the track. Charcoal grills are not permitted. Gas grills are permitted on Prassel Lawn. Grills must adhere to the Open Flame Policy.
Fans may bring tents, awnings and personal chairs to the tailgating area.
- Tents and awnings are not permitted in the stadium stands or the track, but are permitted in approved grass areas of the football stadium and Prassel lawn.
- Tents and awnings must be secured properly for safety reasons, should not obstruct spectator view and must be assembled prior to kickoff and removed after the game ends.
- Personal chairs, such as lawn chairs or other seating types, are permitted in approved tailgating areas, but are not permitted in the stadium stands. Stadium seats are approved for use in the stands.
In the event of inclement weather during tailgating activities, all students, faculty, staff, and visitors shall seek shelter, preferably indoors or in their vehicles, until game officials have given the all clear. Everyone shall follow instructions provided by onsite Athletic personnel, TU staff and/or first responders.
Alcohol vendors and Trinity University Police may ask to view identification. Professional staff and the Trinity University Police Department (TUPD) will respond to any observed policy violations and submit incident reports to the Office of the Dean of Students or Division of Student Life.
Underage drinking (even with parental consent), public intoxication, disorderly conduct, or other unlawful or reckless conduct are prohibited and may result in removal and/or being banned from future tailgating events.
