General Description

Policy Summary:

Outlines the availability and requirements for receiving financial aid during summer sessions.

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear guidelines for awarding financial aid during summer
enrollment, ensure compliance with federal financial aid regulations, and provide students with accurate, timely information regarding summer aid availability, limitations, and application requirements.

Scope:

This policy applies to all undergraduate students enrolled in summer courses who are seeking financial aid through federal student loan programs and/or need-based grants. It outlines eligibility requirements, available aid types, application procedures, and deadlines relevant to the summer term.

Policy Content

For summer study, financial assistance consists primarily of loans. Merit scholarships/grants may not be used for summer study. Students interested in borrowing through a student loan program must be enrolled in at least six hours. Need-based grant may also be available for students who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Any federal student loan amount released for summer school will reduce your eligibility for the remainder of the academic year. This reduction will not be replaced during the fall/spring semesters with gift aid.
