General Description

Policy Summary:

This policy describes the appropriate use and maintenance of University furniture by residence hall/City Vista students.

Scope:

This policy applies to all students living in main campus residence halls and City Vista.

Policy Content

Main Campus & City Vista
University furniture may not be moved from its assigned location (e.g. public spaces, residence hall rooms/units). Fines may be assessed for each piece of furniture or other University property moved without permission. Students are jointly (with other residents of their assigned building) responsible for the care of public areas, furniture, and equipment. Public areas are defined as those areas available for use by all students living in a wing, a floor, or within a building. If the identity of the person responsible for damage to these areas cannot be determined, the University may prorate the cost to repair the damages among all or any portion of the residents of the hall.

Any non-University furniture brought into a residence hall room must be removed from campus by the resident before they check out. Residents who leave personal furniture behind will be charged per piece for its removal. University furniture (including patio furniture) may not be submerged into water or pools.

Any student who causes damage (or whose guest causes damage) to rooms, lounges, hallways, furnishings, or any other parts of the residence halls/City Vista therein will be assessed for such damages. Appeals of room damage assessments must be made in writing (via email) by the undersigned student within 30 days of the assessment.

Main Campus Only
Lofting kits are available for checkout at the start of the academic year, and throughout the year pending availability. All lofted beds are required to have a stabilizer bar installed for safety reasons. Residents who check out a lofting kit must return it to the appropriate lofting kit room at the time of their check-out, or a $25.00 fine will be charged to their student account.
